A man stands alone in a strange landscape of tall, animated
sculptures made from copper, brass and iron inspired by
the 3,000-year old sculptures and designs of unknown masters
from the Middle East. Punctuated by a powerful soundscape
which features ancient instruments such as drums, horns
and bells, David and Goliath reinterprets the famous Biblical
story of a young shepherd's victorious encounter with
the enemy, and his love for the beautiful, elusive Susannah.
This haunting visual poem from the dawn of the Iron Age
can be performed in German or English but its visual impact
transcends language barriers. The production works well
in theatres but is even more effective in the atmospheric
context of a dusk-lit setting such as a courtyard or disused
quarry. |
